Acne Treatment

Acne is a common, chronic skin condition caused by inflammation of oil-producing sebaceous glands. Acne is formed when dead skin cells and oil (sebum) form a sticky plug that clogs up skin pores. This leads to a build-up of bacteria that is trapped in the pores, creating an unsightly inflammation.

Acne problems usually begin between the ages 10-13, and can persist for 5 to 10 years. Acne and skin breakouts are very common on the face, but can also occur on the neck, chest, back, shoulders, upper arms and legs, as well as the scalp. Not only does acne look unattractive, it can also be a source of anxiety and deep personal embarrassment. It is estimated that 75% of all teenagers and young adults suffer from acne. Acne can also affect people in their 30s and 40s. The treatment of acne can often be frustrating and time-consuming with unsatisfying results.

IPL (“Intense Pulse Light” ) Acne Therapy destroys the most common bacteria that cause acne — without drugs, without pain, and without downtime. The IPL system has FDA clearance for the treatment of acne.  It is one of the safest acne treatments available and it is proven to be extremely effective on moderate inflammatory acne.

The IPL system combats acne by targeting both the acne bacteria and oil production. It generates high energy pulses of light that are filtered to emit specific frequencies of light. One of these frequencies causes the oil glands to release oxygen. The acne bacteria are anaerobic and are killed by the oxygen. A second frequency disables the overactive oil glands, causing them to shrink. This controls the overproduction of sebum (oil) to help prevent later outbreaks. The IPL Acne Therapy requires several treatments in order to be truly effective. Our consultants will evaluate your skin’s condition and recommend the best treatment strategy for you. Usually, we recommend two treatments per week for at least two weeks.
